Ingredients:
Cake:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup whole milk, room temperature
Buttercream Frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup heavy cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Food coloring (optional)
Sprinkles for decoration
Instructions:
1.Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a rectangular cake pan.
2.Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
3.Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
4.Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
5.Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
6.Prepare Buttercream Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract, beating until light and fluffy. Add food coloring if desired.
7.Frost and Decorate: Once the cake is completely cool, frost the top and sides of the cake with buttercream frosting. Decorate with colorful sprinkles and any other desired decorations.
